Fleet Box
The basic FleetBox tracking solution is based
around a small ABS module, a GPS satellite antenna, and a wiring harness. The
system requires only 3 wire to make it operate - ground, permanent power (6-28
volts), and an ignition switched line. The GPS antenna can be placed covertly
under the dashboard of the vehicle.
Once a fleet monitoring system has been
installed into an organisation, its day to day operation may be controlled by
one or two people from one department, either Transport or Operations.
But if the information is used wisely and
shared throughout the business, it can instil a positive effect for other
departments and personnel. Sharing this information could help to increase the
cost-benefit and improve the return on investment in the system.
Who, and how, will it benefit?

Working Time Directive/New Vehicle Tax Rules
-
From April 2007, the benefit-in-kind tax charge on company
vans was increased from £500 to a massive £3,500 per annum, unless you can
prove that the van is only used for business not personal use. BOX
telematics Tracking Application provides unequivocal evidence to help
protect your drivers from this tax charge.
-
The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act
-
From 6th April 2008 a new offence has come into force across
the UK, for prosecuting companies and other organisations where there has
been a gross failing, throughout the organisation, in the management of
health and safety with fatal consequences.
-
Lone Worker Protection
-
Organisations have to comply with duties towards lone
workers under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (HSW Act) and the
Management of Health and Safety at Work (MHSW) Regulations 1999.
Private car owner
- Prevent theft of vehicle

TrailerBOX
T he trailerBOX is a trailer tracking unit which
logs continually the position of the trailer using high sensitivity GPS
receivers and quad band GSM / GPRS technology to convey data to the BOX data
collection web site. The design has been approved by the Vehicle certification
Agency (VCA) and EMC / FCC / UL approved for use within the US markets using the
850 & 1900MHz frequency bands for GSM / GPRS. The trailerBOX is easy to install
encompassing only 3 wires which can be attached to the trailers positive,
negative and ignition feed (normally found within the Suzzie connector).
An integral GSM and GPS antenna allows this product to
be installed very quickly into the tracking environment (other options are
available for external GPS / GSM antenna installs).
Other additions to the trailerBOX is the on board
tri-axial acceleration sensor allowing measurement of acceleration in
perpendicular axes which could aid measurements in tilt, motion, shock or even
vibration (this is normally factory set to the operating mode requirements,
Tracking / Covert). An on board temperature sensor will provide ambient
temperature around the environment of the trailerBOX install which could
be particular useful if the trailer is Parked and the trailer temperature is
required hourly / daily.
Functional Specification
- trailerBOX will log start-up/shutdown
events when ignition is turned ON/OFF.
|
- trailerBOX will when ignition is ON log
Moving events every 1 minute before sending information via GPRS to the
DCS every 5 minutes.
|
- trailerBOX will when ignition is OFF log a
Parked event every 1- 24 hours if vehicle ignition remains OFF and then
sends information via GPRS to the DCS every 1- 24hrs.
|
- trailerBOX will when vehicle Ignition is
ON but vehicle is stationary or has travelled < 0.1 of a mile within a
whole minute will log Stationary Event every 1 minute before sending
information via GPRS to the DCS every 5 minutes.
|
- trailerBOX will alert the DCS with a GPS
Tamper event if the GPS antenna is removed from the trailerBOX when the
unit wakes-up on an Ignition On or Parked event (this would be also the
case if the antenna hardware fails). Any alarms forwarding to mobile
numbers or by emails are done via the DCS.
|
- trailerBOX will alert the DCS with a
Battery Disconnect event if main vehicle battery power is removed when
either the unit wakes-up on an Ignition On or Parked event. Any alarms
forwarding to mobile numbers or by emails are done via the DCS.
|
- trailerBOX in Covert Mode will generate an
Ignition On Event followed by moving events every 1 minute if the
tri-axial accelerometer detects movement in any direction. If the Vehicle
stops or becomes stationary for 5 minutes then the trailerBOX will log an
Ignition Off.
|
- trailerBOX in Tracking Mode will generate
a Motion Detected if any activity of movement is picked up from the
tri-axial accelerometer (vehicle being lifted, accidentally driven into,
towed away etc). Any alarms forwarding to mobile numbers or by emails are
done via the DCS.
|
- trailerBOX can be programmed with Geofence
locations by BOX Telematics Ltd with detection In/Out of zone time of 1
minute. An event showing Entry / Exit of Geofence will be sent to the DCS
via GPRS. Any alarms forwarding to mobile numbers or by emails are done
via the DCS.
|
- trailerBOX can be polled by the user using
the SPOTON software which will send an SMS to the trailerBOX to
update its current status. Note: if the Ignition is On then the BOX will
respond within 8 seconds of receiving the SMS message else if the vehicle
is Parked, then the trailerBOX will update on the next triggered wake-up
event which is configured between 1 - 24 hour intervals.
